The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is pleased to announce that senior scientistDr. Stuart E.G. Findlay has received the prestigious National Wetlands Award from the Environmental Law Institute. For 26 years, the Environmental Law Institute has recognized individuals who have made exceptional and innovative contributions to wetlands.
Findlay was acknowledged for his scientific contributions to freshwater ecology and restoration. This includes more than 25 years of research on the Hudson River, a leadership role in the Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System, and over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Findlay serves on advisory committees for the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Research Reserve, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The National Wetlands Award program is supported by the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the U.S. Forest Service, NOAA Marine Fisheries Service, and the Federal Highway Administration. Six awards were issued in 2015, in the areas of science research; conservation and restoration; education and outreach; program development; and landowner stewardship.
