Full title: Time after time: Contextualizing recent climatic changes using natural archives of Earth’s climate history
While observational records can document changes in the climate of the last few centuries, they only provide a brief snapshot of Earth’s longer climate history. As recent climate continues to warm, Earth is losing one of its most valuable resources: ice. Among the many important benefits of ice on the planet includes the vital environmental records of Earth’s past climate preserved within the glacial ice. This presentation will focus on the fundamentals of ice core paleoclimatology and how scientists reconstruct climate parameters from the ice collected from around the world. The paleorecords provided by ice cores help contextualize the climatic changes we are experiencing today.
